“There is no way for me to express in words the pleasure I received from listening to old radio programs. Only in my paintings can I attempt to share these emotions. What a joy it was to let my imagination run free. In my mind I created what those wonderful heroes looked like. They were magnificent. No movie or television program, or even real life, could have equaled what my own imagination could conjure up, and amazingly, in my mind, all those heroes looked a little bit like me. ‘Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear… The story that I wrote here about "Radio Daze" and a photo of the painting are featured in the book that came out this year about Paul Harvey, titled "Good Days!" The Paul Harvey Story, by Paul J. Batura with a forward by Mike Huckabee. The great Paul Harvey used to read the text that I wrote about this painting to audiences in his lectures and talked about it on his radio broadcasts. The painting, or a limited edition print (I'm not sure which) hung in his office for years and according to the book was the first thing Mr. Harvey saw when he got to his office in the early mornings. |
